Advent Devotion: December 3, 2023
Isaiah 64:1-5
Wait and Work
~Linzi Anderson
Some days I can’t help but echo the words of the prophet “O that you would tear open the heavens and come down” We humans struggle to do what is right. We live in a world filled with violence that we inflict on one another. Every day on the news we see so much suffering. Even within our own communities we know that we have neighbors who struggle to thrive. As we witness pain and suffering we long for things to be out right, to be healed, to be made whole; “O that you would tear open the heavens and come down”
Where is God in the midst?
The prophet declares “You meet those who gladly do right”
As we wait in hope for God to put things right, to heal the wounds that run so deep, we are invited to meet with God in doing what is right. May we be intentional this advent season in looking for the ways we can gladly do right.
Challenge:
What are the ways we can work toward our own healing, the healing of our communities, and the healing of the world?
Prayer:
God of compassion,
Comfort those who are suffering
And show us how we can gladly do what is right
Amen.
