Advent Devotion: December 4, 2023
Isaiah 64:6-9
Life is Short
I have been enjoying watching the leaves turn, their vibrant colors warm me as the cold sets in. At the same time I mourn that the trees are becoming bare. As soon as the leaves are gone I long for the spring time when new buds will appear and the trees will be adorned in color once again. Leaves carry us along with the rhythm of the earth. Their presence with us is fleeting, and we know that in a few short months there will be new leaves to take the place of the ones that have fallen this fall. The prophet shares the truth that “we all fade like a leaf” So often we take life for granted. We say that we will do that thing some day. But this scripture reminds us that our presence here is short. So, what are we waiting for? May we fill this world with color and joy today and everyday. May we cease every opportunity to live fully and love well as we wait for God to come.
Challenge: Is there something that would bring you joy that you have been putting off? Consider what you can do today to make it happen. Is there something you could do today to love those around you and spread joy?
Prayer: Eternal God, Help us live life fully everyday Use us to fill this world with color, love, and joy. Amen.
